One of our earliest intentions was to extend our services into the community, assisting those with a learning disability to enjoy a high quality of life by providing support and care adapted to their individual needs. Within the limits of their understanding and abilities, we encourage them to make their own choices towards a unique lifestyle of their own.

Community Outreach

Our two supported living houses, one in Deal, the other in Sandwich, are staffed constantly, day and night. Residents care for themselves and take responsibility for their activities. They learn to manage finance, budgets, food, hygiene and so on, while supportive staff teach them how best to achieve those aims.

This proactive routine improves self-esteem, gives everyone a goal to work for and the pleasure of meeting their targets along the way. The houses, too, provide a camaraderie that underpins the ethos of these happy homes.

Supported Living

We are also pleased to offer our services to those with a relatively mild disability who can maintain their home and independence but welcome some help as and when needed. Some may live with their families; some on their own or with a friend, but in every case we aim for a good match so that both client and helper enjoy each other’s company and form a bond.

Care managers from Social Services assess each client’s needs and we gladly provide the care. All our semi-independent clients have the bonus of free, 24 hour support if urgent assistance is required.

Assisted Independence

At the pinnacle of learning disability is a group of very special people: those whose needs are exceptionally high, who could so easily be denied the experience of a wider world... its sights, sounds and aromas which we take for granted. Brightening their world is a privilege we hold dear.

Our very highly trained HD staff work with parents and carers to provide a stimulating, relaxing environment both at home and in the community.

In a performance of Peter Pan by our Drama group, Matt’s wheelchair became a pirate ship and he and Beth (opposite) swashbuckling pirates!
